Petrovietnam Trade Union: Workshop on promotion of gender equality
On 24th June afternoon, in Da Lat city, Petrovietnam Trade Union organized a workshop on "Promotion of Gender Equality for Sustainable Development of Petrovietnam and its Trade Union".

Attending the Workshop were Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Hong, Head of Women’s Affairs Committee at Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; Mr. Dao Quang Binh, head of the Committee for the Advancement of Women of Petrovietnam; Ms. Nghiem Thuy Lan, Chairwoman of PVN Trade Union; Mr. Tran Ngoc Dzung, deputy permanent chairman of the Trade Union; members of the Standing Committee of Petrovietnam Trade Union; leaders of the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, Executive Management Board, the Committee for the Advancement of Women (CFAW) of Petrovietnam; representatives of the member units, their trade unions, leaders of CFAW and Women’s Affairs Committee.

Giving introductory report at the Workshop, Ms. Luong Thi Hong Nhung, Deputy Head of Propaganda – Women’s Affairs Committee of PVN Trade Union said the Group was having more than 64, 883 laborers, of which female employees were 14,355 (accounting for 22.1%). For the past time, female employees have made considerable contribution to the overall success of the Group.

 

Continue implementing Resolution 11-NQ/TW dated 27/4/2007 of the Politburo, the National Strategy on Gender Equality; resolutions and action plans of Vietnam General Confederation of Labour on Gender Equality; Resolution 782/NQ-TV, the Party Committee, Board of Directors, Executive Management Board, Committee for the Advancement of Women and leader of the Trade Union of Petrovietnam have paid attention to Gender Equality through specific action programs.

 

Increase the percentage of women in planning, building and directing the units to make policies more favorable to women than those specified by the law; promote gender integration in the activities of trade union, organize seminars, dialogue between female staff and Petrovietnam leader, and many other movements in order to facilitate equality between women and men in the fields of politics, economy, culture, communication, education, training and enjoy health care services... Thus, women’s affairs in the oil and gas industry have achieved important results.

 

The number of female Party members are 2,500 out of 14,355 (accounting for 17.4%); female staffs joining the Party Committee are 6 out of 45 (accounting for 13%); female staff equivalent to Vice President of Petrovietnam (Chairwoman of the Trade Union) is 1 out of 17; female staffs subject to the Group’s management are 50 out of 391 (accounting for 12.78%); female staffs who are leaders of division/ department at the Group’s subsidiaries are 2,460 (accounting for 18%); female staffs participating in the Executive Committee of Petrovietnam Trade Union are 6 out of 37 (accounting for 16%); female staffs who are Chairwomen of the trade union at the units are 6 out of 41 (accounting for 14.6%).

It is expected that workshop on " Promotion of Gender Equality for Sustainable Development of Petrovietnam and its Trade Union" is the place to exchange, listen to the sharing, aspiration, recommendations and proposals from female employees as well as their voice and point of view, for the advancement and development of women in the oil and gas industry, concurrently express the desire to Petrovietnam’s leaders for the orientations, solutions and practical policies so that female employees can provide further contribution to the sustainable development of Vietnam oil and gas industry in the future.

 

The participants have listened to the presentations by the Committee for the Advancement of Women and Women's Affairs Committee of the units concerning the issues: situation of women’s affairs at the units, results achieved, lessons learned ; the role of the Standing Committee and Trade Union leader to women’s affairs, particularly in the current context; promotion of gender equality to contribute to the sustainable development of the units, PVN and PVN Trade Union; the role of families to the sustainable development of the units under the Group; experience of the trade union at the units via the emulation movement "Good at country affairs as well as housework” to detect and introduce women for leadership, management; the role of female staff to trade union activities and gender equality affair at the units ...

 

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Hong, Head of Women’s Affairs Committee at Vietnam General Confederation of Labour praised the work of gender equality at Petrovietnam and Petrovietnam Trade Union. She affirmed that the affair of gender equality at Petrovietnam has always been given attention and facilitated by the leaders to obtain many important results. It was demonstrated by the fact that more and more women have been promoted to leader position at the Group, the Trade Union and member units. In addition, women in the oil and gas industry have many opportunities to live in a modern and happy family, get training to enhance professional knowledge for higher position in the society, sharing and understanding from husbands and children... They are important results of gender equality work achieved by the Group and its Trade Union, and higher results are promising for gender equality work of the oil and gas industry in the future.

Giving conclusion at the workshop, Chairwoman Nghiem Thuy Lan appreciated all presentations for being prepared carefully, thoroughly, based on actual situation as well as experience in implementation of gender equality at each unit recently.

 

Chairwoman Nghiem Thuy Lan emphasized that in the coming time, leaders of the Trade Union and Women’s Affairs Committee were requested to focus on main tasks: follow up the contents, targets for the gender equality action program in the period 2016 -2020 of Petrovietnam and Petrovietnam Trade Union; increase coordination with the CFAW of the unit to implement the development of women; raise awareness on gender equality for men in the oil and gas industry.

 

Concurrently, leaders of the Trade Union and Women’s Affairs Committee should focus on advising the unit leaders to accelerate the training, fostering, detecting the typical, capable women to introduce to the committee for appointment and promotion to leader/ manager positions; reduce gender prejudice, help women be self-confident, eliminate unconfidence... Join the emulation movements on skilled labor - innovative labor, good at country affairs as well as housework; female employees need to promote research, have many initiatives, suggestions for activities of the trade union, gender equality of the unit and industry.

 

In parallel, the Trade Union and Women's Affairs Committee should continue educating and propagating the importance of family, challenges facing modern families, thereby raise awareness for employees in general and female employees in particular, contribute to building modern, happy families... as important prerequisite for the employees to concentrate on work, join efforts to develop the units, the Group sustainably.
