GAS INDUSTRY
Gas is a clean energy source and gradually accounting for a greater portion in the primary energy mix of Vietnam. Petrovietnam has been supplying gas for large consumers such as power plants, industrial plants using low-pressure gas, chemicals and fertilizer industry, transportation and household consumption. To meet the increasing demands of these consumers, Petrovietnam has been operating and implementing many mega-gas projects.

OPERATING PROJECTS

1.  The Cuu Long Gas Pipeline System

The Cuu Long gas pipeline system, with length of 116 km, has been put into operation since 1995 to transport and gather associated gas from oil fields such as Bach Ho, Rang Dong, Phuong Dong, Ca Ngu Vang, Su Tu Den/Su Tu Vang/Su Tu Trang, Rong, Doi Moi, etc.  to shore. This pipeline system hasdelivery capacity of about 2 bcma per year, but it is now running around 60 to 70 percent of the capacity due to the declined gas production in Cuu Long Basin.

Dinh Co Gas Processing Plant (GPP)

Dinh Co GPP, one of the main facilities in Cuu Long gas pipeline system, is in charge of receiving and processing associated gas (wet gas) from Cuu Long Basin. The plant’s output products consist of dry gas which is transported to consumers through Dinh Co – Ba Ria – Phu My gas pipeline system, LPG and Condensate that are transported to Thi Vai Terminal through Dinh Co – Thi Vai Terminal liquefied products pipeline system and then distributed to consumers by specialized ships.

Phu My - My Xuan - Go Dau low-pressure gas pipeline system

The pipeline system has delivery capacity of 1bcma per year, supplying for low-pressure gas consumers in Phu My – My Xuan – Go Dau industrial zones. The system has been put into operation since 2003.

CNG Plant & Distribution System

Petrovietnam has started to invest in CNG production and trading facilities in the South of Vietnam since 2008. So far, one CNG plants that is located in Tan Thanh District, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province has been put into operation with its total capacity of 50 mcma and supplying clean energy for means of transportation. The provision of CNG has been gradually carried out and expanded in the Southeast and the North of Vietnam.

2.  Nam Con Son gas pipeline system

The pipeline system has been put into operation since 2003 with delivery capacity of about 7 bcma, consisting of about 360km offshore, nearly 40 km onshore, Dinh Co gas receiving and processing station, Phu My gas distribution station. The system is now operating and processing gas from Block 06.1, Block 11.2, Block 12W and Block 05-2&05-3 to supply gas for power plants and industrial consumers in the Phu My area. Currently, the system is running at full capacity to meet high consumption demand.

3.  Phu My – Nhon Trach – Hiep Phuoc gas pipeline system

The system has been put into operation since 2008 with delivery capacity of about 2 bcma. It is partially in charge of transporting and supplying Nam Con Son gasto the power plants in Nhon Trach area and industrial zones alongside the pipeline. This system also contributes to develop gas consumption market in Ho Chi Minh City and connect with the Southwest region through the West-East connecting pipeline in the future.

4.  PM3 – Ca Mau gas pipeline system

The system has been put into operation since May 2007 with delivery capacity of about 2.2 bcma, transporting gas from Block PM3 which is the overlapping area between Vietnam and Malaysia) and Block 46 Cai Nuoc to Ca Mau, supplying gas for Ca Mau power and fertilizer plants.

ON-GOING PROJECTS

1.  Block B – O Mon gas pipeline system

The system has delivery capacity of about 18.3 mcm per day (equivalent to 6.4 bcma), supplying gas for Ca Mau power and fertilizer plants and power plants in O Mon, Can Tho. The project is expected to be completed after 2015.

2.  Ca Mau Gas Processing Plant (GPP)

Ca Mau GPP is scheduled to be built for processing (xử lý & chế biến sâu) gas sources in the Southwest region, specifically from Block PM3 CAA, Block 46-CN and Block B, Block 48/95, 52/97, to recover high-value products.

3.  Nam Con Son 2 gas pipeline system

The pipeline system is built to transport gas from the Thien Ung, Dai Hung field and other gas fields on the Nam Con Son basin to provide gas for industrial consumersin the Southeast region. The project is divided into 02 phases, phase 1 is scheduled for completion in 2015 connecting Thien Ung, Dai Hung field, to Bach Ho pipeline system to transport gas to shore via existing Bach Ho pipeline system.

4.  Other gas projects

In order to ensure gas supply for gas consumers, Petrovietnam is implementing LNG storage and terminal project, Thai Binh gas pipeline project and associated gas gathering projects on the Cuu Long basin and Nam Con Son basin.

These efforts will help Petrovietnam to considerably increase the gas supply, meeting the consumers’ demands and ensuring the national energy security.
